Need computer help ASAP! employer sent me application and forms to fill out and can not fill in the forms!?

Hello, I am trying to fill out an application and forms from a place I am trying to apply for a job for. They sent me forms to download and fill out, and when I download the forms and try to type to fill them in, nothing happens. Someone told me to blue them in and copy that does not work either, another person told me the reason they are not working is because they need to be saved in rich text format. I honestly do not know what the problem is but am not real experienced on the computer yet, and just really need to be able to fill these forms out and get them emailed back to the person so I may get a job. If you can help, I appreciate you assistance, easy terms to understand please. Thank you. I also am trying to download a resume' and the same thing happens will not let me fill in the form or type ect. Please help me.
