Question about the TV series Twin Peaks?

I have all 29 episodes on video and I have seen the first 5. I like parts of it (especially Sherilyn Fenn) but some of it is a little slow-paced. I am wondering if the episodes change after a while and get even better or if it sticks with the who killed Laura Palmer part as its major thing all the way through with no signifigant counter plots or diversions?
